Linc Energy makes IT modular

Linc Energy's geographic spread and aggressive growth plans mean mobility is a "hot topic" internally, according to Berry.

IT is in the process of evolving an existing bring-your-own device (BYOD) strategy to a choose-your-own device (CYOD) model.

Berry said that allowing employees to use BYO devices that were unsupported by IT had a "knock-on effect" on productivity.

"People spend significant amounts of time trying to get devices working [on the corporate network] that we don't support," Berry said.

"We're looking to move towards a CYOD model where we actually look at a number of different types of devices and agree to support those devices."

The company is also in the process of shifting Microsoft Lync from a pilot project into production. The software will replace some elements of an existing IP telephony environment that uses Mitel equipment.

"We're in the process of taking a lot of different areas of fragmented work and solidifying it into a mobile device management policy, but also unifying all of our communications strategies as well," Berry said.

"Obviously there is some crossover."
