Collaboration platform aims to foster new products and partnerships.

IBM opens social developer playground
IBM has unveiled a social network that allows the nearly six million members of its developer and partner programmes to collaborate.

The new developerWorks community spaces offer special areas where members can interact on business trends.

The platform currently offers 12 topics and business trends, such as software-as-a-service or service oriented architectures.

Big Blue also unveiled a service where partners can share profile information describing their business.

The service will help the partners to find subject matter experts and use web 2.0 tools such as social book-marking and blogs to interact and forge relationships.

IBM hopes that the collaboration tools will foster the creation of new software applications and forge new partnerships.
