Government renews AWS sourcing deal

The Digital Transformation Agency has renewed its government-wide cloud sourcing arrangement with Amazon Web Services for another three years.

The agreement was first signed in 2019 with an initial value of $39 million, which climbed to $390.8 million within three years.

The government renewed the agreement in 2022 for another three years at a value of $174.1 million.

The previous renewal was due to expire on April 30, 2025. However, the new renewal carries the deal through to February 29, 2028.

DTA chief Chris Fechner said over 140 Commonwealth, state and territory public sector agencies are now using AWS “to support service delivery in areas such as transport, health, education and tax”.

“The new AWS arrangement will drive better contract performance, vendor accountability and maximise value,” he said.

Writing in a DTA blog post, AWS Australia managing director for public sector Louise Stigwood said the agreement includes more than 240 AWS services.
