Fujitsu has expanded its range of highly integrated video processing devices with the launch of the MB86H51.
The device supports the H.264 format and can compress and decompress full high-definition video at 1,920 dots x 1,080 lines in real time using the H.264 format.
Fujitsu claims that the MB86H51 is the industry's first single-chip device for full HD H.264 high profile version 4.0 video processing to incorporate embedded memory.
The chipset also compresses and decompresses audio in real time by utilising formats such as the MPEG-1 Audio Layer.
The device is designed to provide high image quality recording, playback and transmission of full HD video for consumer or industrial applications, such as digital video cameras, hard disk digital video recorders and home network devices.
Davy Yoshida, director of business development at Fujitsu Microelectronics America, said: "Digital AV equipment is moving to HD formats, and we anticipate significant demand for products based on the highest definition specification known as full HD."
The chipset uses high-compression technology from Fujitsu Laboratories to reduce the processing burden.
A proprietary algorithm automatically applies less compression to areas in the image where compression artefacts are most noticeable to human vision, such as human faces or slow-moving objects, with increased compression to other areas.
The MB86H51 package will begin sampling in July with an expected price of $295, Fujitsu said.
