DeepNines sues McAfee, claims patent infringement

Dallas-based DeepNines said the suit involves a patent issued to the company for technology combining a firewall and a signature-based intrusion detection system. The patent was issued on June 6, according to a statement released by DeepNines.

DeepNines uses the technology in question in its unified threat management and intrusion prevention devices, according to the statement.

A DeepNines spokesman said today that the company had no further comment on the suit.

McAfee spokeswoman Siobhan MacDermott said today that McAfee had no comment on the current suit.

Santa Clara, Calif.-based McAfee had filed suit against DeepNines in a past grievance, MacDermott said.

Claiming that McAfee, despite losing an interface in March of last year, continues to sell products claiming this patent as its own, DeepNines is seeking undisclosed damages and a permanent injunction to prevent McAfee from selling products in question.
