Federal Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, will open this month’s AusCERT2009 Asia-Pacific Information Security Conference.

With the six-day event set to kick off next Tuesday at the Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast, AusCERT director Nick Tate said Conroy's participation highlights the growing importance of identifying and addressing information security issues at all levels of government.

"As this year's theme - 'the Security Evolution' - suggests, security threats are evolving beyond simple bugs, so security solutions must evolve to keep pace, and practitioners need to have adaptive and evolving mindsets," Tate said.

"I believe Senator Conroy, in agreeing to open this conference, is showing his support for this statement."

More information about the event can be found at the AusCERT website.
