Apple pegged for price cuts

According to Mac news site Apple Insider, the company is looking to cut prices for both notebooks and desktop.

The site credits unnamed but 'extremely reliable' sources in reporting that the company would drop the price of both the 13 inch MacBook consumer notebook along with certain iMac desktop models.

The rumours come in the midst of what has been a tough economic stretch for Apple. After seeing Mac sales begin to slow the last quarter, the company was said to be laying off as many as 1600 employees in its retail operations.

Pricing has also become a marketing issue for Apple. Competitors such as Microsoft have used the economic crisis as a backing to take aim at the Macintosh's higher price tag with a recent series of commercials and whitepapers.

Those who do pay for Apple hardware, however, seem largely happy with their decision. The company came out on top in a pair of recent customer satisfaction surveys for both the PC market with the Macintosh and smartphone handset market with the iPhone.
