26,000 user transport firm outsources patching

By

A global transportation firm is using an all-in-one managed vulnerability service to protect its 26,000 users.

Bombardier Aerospace subscribed to Computer Associates' eTrust Managed Vulnerability service when it realised it was unable to patch its network completely.

"Patch management is a challenge for us," said Alain Paquette, manager of Group Infrastructure Management. "We had to rely on Microsoft. If a vulnerability was around when the team was away, we skipped it."

The service provides Bombardier with 24/7 vulnerability alerts tailored to the company's needs. The firm can now prioritise devices for patching, while the service automates the process.

The firm has more than 14,000 PCs and 800 servers.

"The 24/7 service will free up some of my employees," said Paquette. "We have to provide support worldwide, so we can now focus on other business priorities."
