WordPerfect goes PDF

By

Corel has launched the latest version of its Office productivity suite, WordPerfect Office X4, touting it as "the world's first PDF Office Suite".

"It offers a full range of PDF capabilities, making it easy for users to import, edit and export PDF documents, including scanned PDFs, and reduce the need for third-party PDF software," said Corel.

The firm has also ensured close compatibility with Microsoft's 2007 release of its Office suite through support for Office Open XML (OOXML), but also supports the Open Document Format (ODF) in WordPerfect X4.

As well as the WordPerfect word processor, Quattro Pro spreadsheet, Presentations and WordPerfect Mail applications, Corel has released a data visualisation and business intelligence tool called Visual Intelligence, and WordPerfect Lightning, a note-taking application which allows users to use their system as a "web-connected digital notebook".

Corel also introduced Connector Online Services, giving users the ability for online file and sharing access with 200MB of free storage and backup, and there are new online calendaring and contacts functions.
