WatchGuard Technologies Tuesday rolled out a new line of integrated security appliances designed to expand with the growth of small and midsize enterprises.

The new Firebox X line of appliances allow SME customers to upgrade the device to a higher model in the line just by applying a software license key, according to the Seattle-based vendor.

The appliances integrate firewall, VPN, application-layer security, intrusion prevention, spam blocking, Web filtering and authentication functions. Customers also can activate features such as antivirus protection via a license key.

There are four models in the Firebox X line, priced from $1,990 to $4,990.
