Multi-year deal covers LTE expansion plans.

Wireless broadband carrier vividwireless has signed Vocus Communications to boost the backhaul capacity behind its Perth WiMAX network.

Vividwireless signs Vocus for transit

The multi-year deal will see Vocus provide "high speed" access from 10 Gbps interfaces based out of its Perth data centre, which it purchased from Perth IX earlier this year.

The tailored solution will allow vividwireless to dial up transit capacity at a "moment's notice" on the network.

It may also be expanded to other capital cities in which vividwireless maintains a presence.

Vividwireless intends to ultimately upgrade and expand its mobile broadband network to Time Division Duplex Long Term Evolution (TD-LTE) technology in major capital cities from this year with funding from an international telco partner.

The TD-LTE upgrade is expected to provide a 2.5 times increase in bandwidth speeds over current vividwireless WiMAX speeds.
