The Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Union have confirmed speculation by announcing a ban on ‘overtime, recalls and call backs’ for unionised Telstra workers this weekend.

Unionised Telstra workers to strike this weekend
In a statement on the CEPU website today, the Union said the industrial action ‘will commence at 12.01am on Saturday 10 January, 2009 and conclude at 11.59pm on Sunday 11 January, 2009’.

“While the action is designed to avoid possible impacts on the public, there may be instances where fault repair is delayed,” CEPU said.

“We regret impacts that might occur on business processes however we stress that members will be available to assist with clear emergency/life and limb calls.”

The action is the latest in a long-running dispute over Telstra’s alleged refusal to negotiate a collective agreement with workers.

In December 2008, 90 percent of some 4,400 workers polled in a secret ballot voted in favour of industrial action against the telco.
