Victorian transport industry leaders and government representatives plan to discuss the use of technology in meeting transport challenges.

Technology is set to be a key part of the Victorian transport industry, with the launch of a forum to allow transport industry leaders and government representatives to determine how technology may be best used to meet new and existing transport challenges.

The Intelligent Transport Systems Network (ITSVIC) is a joint initiative between not-for-profit organisation Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Australia and government body Multimedia Victoria.

“In order to meet the strain placed upon not only Australia’s but also the World’s transport systems by the rapidly increasing demand, industry participants must engage with each other and with government to find innovative technical solutions,” said Brent Stafford, executive director of ITS Australia.

“The upside is that along with the growth in transport will come enormous market opportunity as it did with mobile phones in telecommunications,” Brent said.

ITSVIC also aims to also encourage development of a local high tech ITS industry with a view to encourage exports.

More than 60 organisations have already registered their interest in ITSVIC.
