Spam drives author to pen poetry

Larry O. Dean, author of books including Identity Theft For Dummies and Gentrification Is Theft, has penned a book inspired by the subject lines of the unsolicited emails he receives every day.

The ingeniously titled I Am Spam features poems such as An Interview with God, Online Cheating Wives and Get Your Coupons For All Your Pet Needs.

"Like everyone else I know who uses email a lot in their day-to-day routine I have been inundated by spam, much of which, subject line-wise, is amusing or odd-sounding," Dean said, in an interview with the Columbia Online Chronicle. "Some of the more provocative or self-consciously strange lines got me thinking and I decided to try to write some poems based on them."

Dean was born in Michigan where he attended university and worked on The Michigan Voice, the paper once run by outspoken Oscar-winning director Michael Moore.
