The electronics giant will now be branded as an Official Global Partner of the WCG, giving it an exclusive hardware sponsorship that designates Philips' amBX accessories as the official Ambient Gaming Environment Systems at selected WCG events.
The announcement was made by Michael Arzt, senior vice president and general manager of International Cyber Marketing, organiser of the WCG.
Philips' amBX is a series of USB connected peripherals designed to bring gamers one step closer to the action by immersing them in sensory stimulation such as sound, light, wind and vibration.
"Working with the WCG is a great opportunity for Philips to showcase the power of amBX and further immerse gamers into the competition," said Engelbert van Pelt, general manager of new business development at Philips.
With over one million players from more than 70 countries, the WCG is widely regarded as the gaming world's premier tournament.
The 2006 WCG Grand Finals in Monza broke new ground as more than 24 million people tuned in to watch the competition unfold in real time, marking the first ever global live satellite broadcast for an electronics sports event.
