Optus wins $60m Brisbane City Council deal

The seven-year agreement will see Optus completely replace the ageing telecommunications infrastructure used by the council.

Brisbane City Council has been a long-time Telstra customer and is still using an analogue telephony system.

Following a competitive tender process, the council has contracted Optus to migrate its data network to the Optus Evolve network connecting 200 sites across the council.

Optus will also replace the council's existing analogue telephony system with an IP telephony network based on Cisco routers and desk phones.

Finally, Optus will implement a new IP contact centre solution and provide all fixed, mobile, data services to the council, including the management of over 3500 mobile devices.

Optus claims the hard-fought tender will provide Brisbane City Council with a "fully managed network" based on improved service levels, a rationalisation of contracts and cost savings.
