Oblix, a provider of enterprise identity management solutions, plans to acquire Confluent Software, a web services management company.

A spokesman for Oblix said the Cupertino, Calif.-based company expects to announce the acquisition plan next week.

As companies deploy web services, they need to do more than  manage users access to resources - they need to be able manage, secure and monitor the operations of application-to-application interactions, according to Oblix.

"The evolution of identity managment to web services management and security is a natural one that addresses problems at the CIO level," the company said in a statement.
