Novell acquires Linux security firm

By

Aiming to broaden its enterprise security offerings, Novell has acquired Immunix, a supplier of host-based application security for Linux.

Immunix makes AppArmor, a product that protects the Linux operating system and applications from attacks and malware.

Novell executives said the product, which will be now called Novell AppArmor powered by Immunix, provides an easy-to-use enterprise-class security system for Linux.

AppArmor expands Novell's enterprise security portfolio. Novell's SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 supports Security Enhanced Linux (SELinux).

Immunix helped develop the security architecture of the Linux kernel and is close to the Linux development community, according to Novell.
