NAI patents anti-spam techniques

The United States Patent and Trademark Office has granted Network Associates a patent for its spam filtering methods.

The patent covers spam-blocking techniques used by the firm's McAfee products. Methods covered by the pataent include paragraph hashing, compound filters and Bayesian rules.


The firm sold its Sniffer product to Silver Lake Partners and the Texas Pacific Group in April.
