Tizor Systems has received $3 million in Series A funding to support development of its data-level protection technology and its launch into the market.

The company, based in Maynard, Mass., has spent the past two years developing and testing technology that provides information on who does what to critical information in databases, file servers and application servers, and allows a company to detect and prevent misuse of data.

The round of funding was supplied by Masthead Venture Partners, Navigator Technology Ventures, CommonAngels, and individual investors.

Tizor Systems was founded in 2002 by former Bell Labs researchers.
