Moves from AWS for the role.

Cybersecurity solution provider Check Point Software has appointed Les Williams as managing director ANZ.

Williams’ most recent role was leading AWS’ Telecom Business Development function for JAPAC and he has previously held leadership positions at Ericsson, Cisco, and Citrix.

His focus will be on expanding the Check Point business in ANZ, by implementing local strategies to drive growth, according to the company.

“Our strategic direction is built around delivering the best security solutions to partners and customers and Les’ industry experience and expert leadership will enable the development of ANZ companies’ security strategy required for their own digital transformation,” said Sharat Sinha, vice president and general manager, Asia Pacific and Japan.

"By leveraging Check Point’s extensive security portfolio to provide this consolidated approach to prevention-first security, I’m confident that Les will bring a significant contribution to the development of our clients’ security and digital strategies, and protect their business for continued growth.”

Check Point Software’s new strategy surrounds the mantra, “You deserve the best security”, revealed at this year’s CPX 360 event. The company claims that in appointing Williams, it will continue to deliver accelerated growth.

“I’m honoured to be joining Check Point at a time of great momentum to spearhead growth in the region. As digital transformation picks up speed, the need for comprehensive and trusted cyber security also increases in focus, and importance,” said Williams.

“Working with my team, we will look to offer ‘prevention-first’ solutions that go beyond traditional security, protecting areas that our customers have not even thought about. It’s always a prized opportunity to be part of something that brings true customer business relevance, and contributes positively to the broader ANZ economy.”

According to Williams, organisations in ANZ receive an average of 890 cyber attacks per month.

“At the same time, we see both markets and borders reopening and a push to regain economic momentum. So, it’s imperative for organisations to strengthen their cyber defences and protect their bottom lines,” he said.

Williams’ appointment follows Rod Thornes promotion to Australia country manager, and Mark Baker’s appointment as New Zealand country manager.
