Korean online RPG in class action suit

The case has been brought by legal website Lawmarket Asia and Korean law firm K.R. against the makers of online role playing game Lineage, N.C. Soft after 224,000 people said they had details from their national identity numbers and other personal information used to create accounts on the game.

"N.C. Soft holds the responsibility for causing the ID theft by wilful negligence. The game maker failed to verify the identifications of members when they registered," a Lawmarket Asia spokesman told the Korean Herald. "This is the first time that a lawsuit has been filed for reparation claims against a webmaster on whose website hacking was conducted, rather than on the hackers themselves."

Lawmarket Asia has demanded compensation of 1 million Won for each victim ($1,030). Around 100 people have joined the class action suit, and the company is accepting applications to join the suit over the next two weeks via its website.
