Following reports and rumours about which IT firms were hit by the cyber attack along with Google, hardware manufacturer Juniper has been among the first to issue a response.
In a Reuters report, Juniper said that it was one of the victims of the cyber attack on many IT companies last week.
Rumours were made about which companies were hit over the course of last week, but so far only Google has confirmed that it was hit. Juniper spokeswoman Amy Lee said in a statement: “Juniper Networks recently became aware of, and is currently investigating, a cyber security incident involving a sophisticated and targeted attack against a number of companies."
Meanwhile, Google is investigating whether one or more employees may have helped facilitate a cyber attack. Sources familiar with the situation said that the attack, which targeted people who have access to specific parts of Google networks, might have been facilitated by people working in Google China's office.
A Google spokeswoman said: “We're not commenting on rumour and speculation. This is an ongoing investigation, and we simply cannot comment on the details."
Local Chinese media have reported that some Google China employees were denied access to internal networks after January 13, while some staff were put on leave and others transferred to different offices in Google's Asia Pacific operations.
Google has also denied that it has already decided to shut down its China offices, confirming that it will have talks with them in the coming few days and that it contacted the Chinese government last week after the announcement.
