IDS snorts out SCADA bugs

SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) are industrial control systems used in a wide variety of environments from utilities, to elevators and space stations.

Version 2.9.2 is the first time Snort has handled SCADA and is timely given recent attention on vulnerabilities in the systems. MetaSploit had also added capabilities to detect SCADA vulnerabilities.

Snort includes preprocessors to support DNP3 and Modbus standard protocols.

A run down of capabilities possible with the latest version were available on the Snort blog including release notes.
