ICC uplifts connectivity in $3 million upgrade

The convention, exhibition and entertainment precinct overhauled its legacy platforms and integrated a new wireless system leading to improvements that enhance user experience, particularly in locations with many connected devices.

Managed by ASM Global, the ICC can hold close to 10,000 guests and covers around 71,000 square meters.

Forming part of the ICC’s RESPECT: Shaping Events for Success report [pdf], the precinct now offers consumers Wi-Fi 6 and 6e capable access points, multi-gigabit capable network switches and will have the capacity to provide 20Gb of internet connectivity once the project is complete.

CEO, ICC Sydney and group director for convention centres, ASM Global (APAC), Geoff Donaghy told Digital Nation prior to the upgrade, the venue “provided a solid 3Gb of internet connectivity.”

“ICC Sydney is committed to delivering innovative, world-class event services for the millions of visitors to the venue every year – providing a comprehensive and extensive Wi-Fi capability is part of this commitment to provide best-in-class technical services.

“The new wireless system provides several improvements over older wireless technology that enhance user experience, particularly in environments with many connected devices.

“ICC Sydney’s clients can now take advantage of Wi-Fi 6 features, including higher throughput and speed, improved performance in congested environments, improved range and coverage [and] better support for dense environments,” Donaghy said.

The ICC has also installed “enhanced security, offering stronger encryption and better protection for the clients.”

Donaghy added the new systems “offers several benefits to ever growing IoT devices with improved connectivity, efficient and battery life.”
