The U.S. House Homeland Cybersecurity Subcommittee has released recommendations for the next Congress.

Topping the group's list is creating the post of assistant security for cybersecurity in the Department of Homeland Security, which the House has already included in proposed legislation to reform the country's intelligence community.

The subcommittee also recommends that the 109th Congress encourage DHS to develop a coherent program and budget to fully implement the National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace.

It also suggests that Congress assess DHS's plan to improve outreach and information sharing across government agencies and with the private sector, and ensure that DHS improves its cyber risk assessments and remediations.

Congress also should continue to support research and development to improve cybersecurity products and services, according to the subcommittee.
