The federal Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has signed a $33 million deal with Optus for a managed network-as-a-service offering.

Under the three-year contract, Optus will supply voice and data carriage and mobile services, alongside SD-WAN and secure access service edge or SASE,
The deal marks an expansion of a previous agreement between Optus and Health, where the telco supplied IPVPN, Microsoft Teams Operator Connect, and some internet services.
The contract was sourced via the Digital Transformation Agency’s telecommunications marketplace panel and includes a three-year extension option.
Optus added that the deal would support Health’s ongoing digital transformation.
These principles were outlined in the government’s National Digital Health Strategy 2023–2028 [pdf], which set out the need for interoperable, data-driven and scalable technology measures within the sector.
The deal follows Health’s recent renewal of its cloud arrangement with Amazon Web Services for another three years, valued at $23 million.
