The shadow responsibility for communications will now be handled by Melissa McIntosh, who was elevated into the shadow cabinet.

McIntosh replaces David Coleman, who moves from the shadow minister for communications role into the foreign affairs portfolio.

In addition, senator Claire Chandler will take on the shadow minister for government services and the digital economy role that is being vacated by Paul Fletcher, who will not contest this year’s federal election.

Opposition leader Peter Dutton said in a statement that McIntosh would “continue to take the fight up to the government on key policy areas” in communications.

Meanwhile, Chandler would be tasked with “ensuring government services get to those who need [them].”
