Dell unveils Opteron quad-core servers

Dell has announced that it will use new AMD processors for its PowerEdge server range..


The company is equipping four servers with Opteron quad-core chips, and will introduce a new tower server based on the AMD processors.

The tower model will be aimed at small and medium-sized businesses and will include features such as remote management and redundant power supplies in an effort to increase uptime and reliability.

Dell claims that the new server models will offer a performance increase of up to 79 percent over the previous PowerEdge line, which used dual-core Opteron chips.
