Deakin University will extend its HP TRIM records management system to Mac and web users with a Malaysian-developed rich interface add-on it has been trialling since December.

The University is understood to be the first to trial and order the rich web browser interface called Saffron. The tool is being offered in Australia through systems integrator Alphawest.

Deakin first started to experience issues with HP TRIM when "it became apparent that a number of departments were standardised on Mac operating systems for which there was no support" in the HP product, the University said in a statement.

In addition Deakin University had a requirement for remote web based access to all the features of TRIM, it said.

Martin Brandwyk, Project Manager for ITSD at Deakin University, said the University had been cautious about support when it found it was the first to trial the software in Australia, but said the tool performed "extremely well" in initial trials.

Alphawest said it has "more than 250 TRIM customers in Australia, all of which have expressed a desire to add a solid web interface to their TRIM installations"

"Saffron provides this in one easy to use interface," the integrator said.
