In the job posting, the NSW Hunter Valley council said the CIO “will play a key role in driving innovation, optimising technology investments and ensuring operational excellence across the organisation.”

It is a newly-created role and will report to Cessnock City Council general manager, Ken Liddell.

Liddell told iTnews that the CIO will "identify key digital projects and lead the development, implementation, and management of council’s information technology strategy."

He said the CIO will be “at the forefront of implementing secure, efficient, and cost-effective technology solutions for council”.

Liddell added the role will also need to “drive high performance in the areas of information technology support, cybersecurity, geographic information systems and business improvement.”
