Canon Australia has culled 15 staff as part of its ongoing transformation but says it has created almost as many new positions this week.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed to iTnews that 15 people had been made redundant, but said 14 new roles had also been created "across the business".

"Some positions have been modified, some have been made redundant and some new positions have been created," the spokesperson said.

"The net effect of these changes is one redundancy."

The spokesperson declined to reveal specifics on which areas of the business were growing.

But in an earlier statement, Canon said its business and consumer divisions were the areas undergoing "realignment" under the transformation.

"Canon Australia has announced internally some changes to its organisational structure as part of its ongoing transformation towards a more customer and channel focused business model," the statement said.

"Specifically the company's business and consumer divisions have been re-aligned to deliver better customer service and a broader range of offerings.

"Changes made to Canon's organisational structure are in line with Canon Europe's highly successful business model and will be accompanied by investment in the company's systems, processes and employee training."
