BigAir will now distribute Unwired's desktop modem to customers in Melbourne and its new laptop wireless card following an expanded agreement between both companies.

BigAir, through its mobile wireless subsidiary Veritel, first became an Unwired partner nearly two years ago, distributing Unwired desktop modem service – Rabbit – to BigAir customers in Sydney only.

Jason Ashton (pictured), CEO at BigAir said the agreement will expand the wireless providers’ subscriber base.

"Expanding the relationship with Unwired opens up the Melbourne market for BigAir. We will also sell Unwired’s laptop cards to both Sydney and Melbourne and this is expected to improve subscriber growth for BigAir," he said.

Ashton said the wireless market was going through a healthy growth rate and people are beginning to want broadband connections wherever they go.

“I think security issues will disappear as the networks become better protected. Using wireless is like the early days of having a mobile phone - everyone is pretty comfortable using mobile phones now,” he said.
