Australian domain administrator auDA has appointed Robert Turney into a newly created chief information security officer (CISO) role.

Turney announced his appointment on LinkedIn, writing that he would be "leading the charge in protecting the .au domain space."

An auDA spokesperson told iTnews that Turney "brings significant experience from a career in security, including senior leadership roles in the finance, government and logistics sectors."

Turney has previously held cyber security roles at iSelect and Australia Post.

It appears auDA previously had an "information security officer", recruited sometime in 2021, although iTnews was unable to confirm who led cyber security previously by the time of publication.

auDA also announced Sharon Copeland-Smith as its new chief operating officer (COO), commencing March 3.

She is currently the chief operating officer of Cenitex, the Victorian government's IT shared services provider.

The COO role at auDA was vacated by Bruce Tonkin, who started in a new role as CEO of the administrator at the start of 2025.
