Apple jumps to fix developer vulnerabilities

Apple has fixed vulnerabilities on its developer website days after researchers threatened to publish information about the flaw.

The Burma-based YGN hacker group warned Apple about the arbitrary redirect and cross site scripting vulnerabilities on 27 April.

But the holes remained open two months after Apple had received notice and thanked the group.

Apple’s hand was forced after YGN told media outlets it would publicly disclose the findings.

The vulnerability affected all browsers, according to YGN, and could have led to phishing attacks against Apple developers who used the website.

YGN had this year disclosed separate redirect vulnerability information affecting an Oracle website, and a cross site scripting flaw affecting a McAfee site.

The group published information on those flaws after the companies failed to act on security advisories, and the holes were soon fixed.

YGN was established in 2007 as a group dedicated to “ethical hacking and countermeasures”.
