2013 SC Award winners

The SC Magazine and AusCERT awards have recognised some of the best vendors, products, security professionals and projects in Australia and New Zealand.

The SC Awards in its fifth year seek out those vendors and products that best help organisations and the public at large to improve security.

The awards received a strong number of nominations across the six awards: Vendor of the Year, Product of the Year, Innovation; Gatekeeper; Protector, and Mobile.

Sourcefire took out the Vendor of the Year Award for its support of the open source community and free robust product offerings. Finalists were Sophos and Arbor Networks.

McAfee won the Product of the Year Award for its Enterprise Security Manager solution. Finalists were SourceFire FireAMP and startup PacketLoop.

Exploitable Labs collected the much contested Innovation Award for its security training services. Finalists included Sourcefire FireAMP, Venafi, and local outfit BugCrowd.

Imperva took out the Gatekeeper Award for SecureSphere. Finalists included Websense TRITON Data Security Suite.

Sophos won the Protector Award for RED. Finalists included FireEye Malware Protection System and Websense Web Security Gateway Anywhere.

And Good Technology won the Mobile Award for its Good for Enterprise platform. Finalist was Sophos for its Mobile Control platform.

The AusCERT Awards recognised the efforts to bolster security by individuals, teams and organisations across the past year.

Andrew Van Der Stock from KPMG scored the first award for Individual Excellence for Information Security which was awarded to individuals who provided a great contribution to information security across. Van der Stock picked up the award for his work on the upcoming Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) Developer Guide.

Bruce van der Graaf of the NSW Police fraud unit and Craig Valli of Edith Cowan University were finalists.

Brisbane City Council's ICT risk, security and compliance unit won the award for Organisational Excellence in Information Security for its successful efforts to roll out a comprehensive risk framework out across the organisation.

Prolexic's computer emergency response team (CERT) and the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) were finalists for the award.

And the New Zealand Internet Task Force scored the Best Security Initiative award. The Commonwealth Bank's CERT and OWASP were finalists.
