Datacom has completed structural works on its $NZ30 million ($A24 million) data centre in Hamilton, New Zealand.
The data centre is named Kapua, which means 'cloud' in Maori language. It is set to open for business in early February 2013.
Datacom said it is building the facility to Tier 3+ specifications and has the capacity to house 920 racks on two floors initially.
The facility supports 5.8MW of power to IT equipment. According to Datacom, all major telcos in New Zealand will have a presence at the centre with the first circuits to go live in early November.
It uses free air-cooling, similar to Datacom's existing 'Orbit' data centre in Auckland.
The red pipes carry chilled water through the facility. They will be silver when an insulating layer is added.
The facility was designed to house customer equipment, Datacom’s infrastructure-as-a-service offering, and the Datacom Cloud Service for Government. Pictured here is a room with its floor and ceiling yet to be installed.
Datacom plans to expand the two-storey facility to a total of five data floors eventually.
