Roughly 500 nautical miles off Sydney, work is underway to complete the Tasman Global Access undersea cable, connecting New Zealand to the network of cables ending in Australia, via a recently finished shore landing at Narrabeen Beach north of Sydney's CBD.
The 2300 km cable is a US$70 million (A$93 million) joint project between New Zealand telco incumbent Spark, multinational Vodafone Group and Australia's Telstra - which holds a minority stake.
