Minicast: The investment opportunity in gaming

The gaming industry is an ever-evolving market, with a growing player base and increasing revenues from advertising, sponsorship, and in-game purchases, presenting a significant opportunity to investors.

According to Clayton Larcombe, chief investment officer at PAC Capital, the industry is becoming a part of mainstream culture in Australia.

"We believe in this industry a lot because we're really deep in there, and we just feel like this is starting to become a part of mainstream culture, esports and gaming. It already is in Asia," Larcombe said.

As someone who lived in Asia for a long time, Larcombe has firsthand experience of the gaming industry's significant presence in the region. He noted that the gaming ecosystem offshore is much more developed than it is in Australia, and he sees a lot of potential for growth in the Australian gaming industry.

"That's what PAC Capital is about. Our job is to try to find or identify ideas or companies that are going to obviously grow and make our investors money in the long term," he explained.

Larcombe sees significant potential for investment in the gaming industry and has created the PAC Capital Global Esports Fund to tap into this potential. He noted that the fund has a long short option where they also invest, which saw a 7.5 percent increase last year while the NASDAQ was down 30 percent.

"This is a good example of having active management and people that know the companies and sector really well," he said.

The gaming industry presents a significant opportunity for growth, and Larcombe is optimistic about the future.

"I want to try and identify to people that here in Australia, that we should be investing in this ecosystem, not only domestically, we should be trying to harvest and grow our talent," he said.
