UHS pilots wireless security management

United Health Services has implemented Computer Associates' beta version of Wireless Site Management at George Washington University Hospital in Washington D.C.

"It's the perfect place to test it," said Linda Reino, CIO at United Health Services. "If I can stay secure at a university, I can stay secure anywhere. I think it's going well."

If successful, the project could extend to UHS's 35,000 employees.

The network has enabled hospital staff to access records while standing beside patients.

Yogesh Gupta, CTO for CA, said the tool secures networks by rotating wireless encryption keys every 24 hours and sets a physical boundary for broadcasts to reduce the risk of wardrivers breaking in.
