More than eight out of 10 enterprises will embark on datacentre transformation projects in 2009, as the need to cut costs and minimise business risks intensifies

Transformation initiatives to target the data centre
Cost cutting was ranked as the highest priority for nearly a third of the 600 global IT decision makers recently polled by technology giant HP.

Much of that cost cutting appears to be targeted at the data centre, with 95 per cent implementing, or planning to implement, consolidation projects. Some 91 per cent also said that they would be deploying some form of virtualisation technology.

"CIOs who approach data centre transformation initiatives with a focus on business needs can significantly reduce time-to-value for today's technology investments while laying the foundation for future growth," said John Bennett, worldwide director of data centre transformation solutions at HP.

Twenty per cent of respondents said that they would initiate a complete transformation of their datacentre, while the remaining 80 per cent plan to implement tactical transformation projects outside a formal data centre plan.
