Won't rule out plan revamp, but not happening yet.

Telstra will stick with a narrow line-up of NBN fibre products while it "gets more experience" of customer demand on the network, meaning a 50 Mbps speed tier and more quota options remain off the cards.

Telstra avoids 50 Mbps NBN speed tier

The carrier's executive director of service delivery, Phill Sporton, told a live blog that it's still "early days" in Telstra's thinking on NBN plans.

It currently offers just two quota options — 25GB and 500GB — for customers that just want a broadband connection to the NBN. The plans include "pay as you go phone services" but no calling value.

If customers bundle NBN broadband and phone calls, they have the choice of 5GB, 200GB and 500GB quotas.

All plans come with the basic 12/1 Mbps NBN speed, but can be upgraded to either 25 Mbps or 100 Mbps for extra cost per month.

Quizzed whether Telstra would provide a quota option between 25GB and 500GB on the broadband-only plans — and the speed tier of 50 Mbps — Sporton provided no firm commitment but left the door open to revamp the products at some point in the future.

"We have developed a set of plans based on customer input," he said.

"However, we are always interested in feedback from our customers and I expect we may develop more plans as we get more experience on what our customers want from NBN."
