Services Australia signs $226m data centre service extension

Services Australia has renewed its data centre agreement with Canberra Data Centres for another five years.

The renegotiated deal will cost Services Australia $226.1 million and covers space in CDC’s Hume and Fyshwick data centres in the ACT.

According to a notice published on Austender, the contract’s scope covers “computer hardware maintenance”.

Services Australia was unable to provide more specifics on the agreement when contacted by iTnews.

However, a spokesperson said the new contract “covers the same general services previously provided”.

Services Australia first tapped CDC for data centre leasing in 2011, signing a contract that spanned 10 years and was valued at $106.1 million.

Another agreement was struck in 2016, which expired on January 31 2025 at a value of $289 million. This deal covered the primary data centre facility at Hume in Canberra and was renewed in 2022 for 15 months, and then again in 2023. 

The latest deal comes shortly after Services Australia announced plans to overhaul its entire IT architecture over 10 years following a major review.
