Royal Bank of Scotland to secure transport ticket network

By

The Royal Bank of Scotland is to provide a security component of the Integrated Transport Smartcard Organisation’s (ITSO) ticketing infrastructure.

Under its TrustAssured brand name, the bank will enable ticket machines and automated barriers to securely store and transmit ticket holder's data and travel information.

The ITSO network will allow travel operators to sell tickets for single trips that require different forms of transport, such as train, bus, boat and taxi.

Transport operators will be able to update information by sending instructions electronically via a third party to each machine.

The deal between ITSO and RBS was signed in December 2003 and the ITSO Security Management Service (ISMS) is expected to go live in June 2004.
