Hunts for two new executive overseers.

Qantas is planning to “update” its internal cyber security function by appointing a new executive duo to oversee the domain internally.

Qantas to shake-up cyber security governance

The airline is looking to appoint a chief information security officer (CISO) and cyber strategy and engagement manager. Applications for the CISO role closed overnight.

The two executives will oversee a team of 13 staff in Sydney as well as what Qantas is calling a major transformation of its cyber security strategy and risk functions.

It was unclear exactly how Qantas is restructuring its cyber security operations. It appears that cyber strategy and governance presently falls under the remit of chief security officer Steve Jackson, suggesting a potential carve-out of responsibilities.

A Qantas spokesperson did not return requests for comment by the time of publication.

Meanwhile Qantas is also gearing up to select a new top IT boss, after the resignation of CIO Luc Hennekens last month.

Hennekens will work his last day in September before taking off for a new gig in France.
