PayPal Australia launches developer program

It said today that Australia is the first market outside the US to be included in its developer program.

The program includes free technical tools and resources, PayPal developer certification and  developer days to be held in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth later this month.

Those attending will get a free voucher to sit the PayPal certification exams. Accredited developers are listed on a directory for customers.

Free resources listed on the developer portal include code for payment and donation buttons and a PayPal shopping cart for websites, and APIs for mobile checkout and mass-payment applications.

PayPal's senior manager of technical engineering, Spiro Rokos, said it would help Australians tap into revenue opportunities.

He said it was designed "to help organisations outside of the retail sector, including non-profits, education and local government, take advantage of e-commerce".

"This is an opportunity for developers to build their business in new market segments," he said.

"PayPal's solutions [can] meet a wide range of payment processing needs, from enabling charities to raise funds online to helping local schools collect fees."
