McAfee announced this week it will release a new subscription service, available to customers within months.

Codenamed "Falcon," the platform will encompass anti-virus, anti-spyware and a new "threat watch" technology.

The service, under production for a year and announced the same week as major disclosures from Microsoft and Symantec, will debut this summer.

The new technology aims to simplify security for end users, according to Marc Solomon, director of product management for McAfee Consumer.

"We know from our research and relationships with millions of consumers that PC security is confusing and complex to them," he said. "With the launch of ‘Falcon’ this summer, we have integrated into our award-winning products powerful, yet east to use protection that addresses both existing and emerging threats. For the consumer, we not only continue to stop the bad guys in their tracks but we will even be able to sniff out and stop suspicious activity."

Microsoft this week announced the availability of the much-anticipated Windows Live OneCare.

Symantec also announced that its own integrated security solution - formerly code-named Genesis - will be named Norton 360.
