Thieves have reportedly made off with 60 Lenovo laptops from a high school in Byron Bay.

NSW Police said the alleged offenders broke into the school after hours on Tuesday last week.

Along with student laptops, a data projector and sum of cash was also stolen.

The total value of the heist was alleged to be in excess of $31,000.

School students across New South Wales received Lenovo laptops as part of the Federal Government's computers in schools program.

A spokesman for the NSW Department of Education confirmed that the stolen laptops were delivered to the school as part of this taxpayer-funded program.

Police appealed to anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
