Iowa man accused of phishing scam

Jayson Lucas Harris allegedly operated a scam to obtain credit card numbers and other personal data by sending fraudulent emails and directing recipients to a bogus web site that looked like a Microsoft registration site, federal authorities said.

According to a Microsoft spokesperson, the phishing attack targeted MSN customers in 2003.

Harris was arrested by FBI agents and Davenport police on federal warrant. He appeared before a U.S. magistrate judge in Illinois and released without bond, according to a statement released Tuesday by the FBI and U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Iowa.

A federal grand jury issued an indictment against Harris on Aug. 16, charging him with 75 counts of wire fraud.
