Cisco source code for sale

By

$24,000 is all you need to buy Cisco source code, according to an online hacking group. The Source Code Club (SCC) is offering Cisco Pix 6.3.1, the company's proprietary firewall software, to anyone willing to stump up the cash.

SCC originally made headlines in July this year claiming it had several sets of source code for sale. After what appears to be low interest and some re-working in order to "alleviate some of the initial fears", the code sale is operational again.

Using the newsgroup alt.gap.international.sales as a means of communication, SCC is also offering Enterasys and Napster software, although at the slightly lower figures of $19,200 and $12,000 respectively. The plan seems to be to develop a network of people interested in buying code and eventually stop selling through the newsgroup.

"Our main focus is selling source code and design documents, but there are many other facets to our business," said the SCC newsletter spokesman under the moniker of Larry Hobbles. "Our team is a specialist in internet security. We take extreme security measures to ensure our clients' safety."

Cisco is yet to release any official line on the shady business but has said in an email statement, "We are aware of the posting, and we are looking into it." Cisco released a newer version of Pix, version 6.3.4, in July.
